About

“Sewing has the power to foreshadow or commemorate the most celebrated moments in time.” – Ruth Ann Feild

Artist Ruth Ann Feild captivates the viewer with hidden pictures, thread sketching, fabrics, colors, textures, buttons, and keepsakes in her pieces. With a love for making stitches that are simple and unifying, Ruth Ann creates artwork that helps to tell a story or record an important occasion.

Ruth Ann’s Fiber Art illustrates her fascination with history and maps. Her artwork unfolds the fabric of local history from the Grand Valley, across the state of Colorado and beyond. Celebration is the theme that runs through her artistic creations by recreating historical events through dimensions of fabric, thread, color, and texture.

Postcards From Home (displayed in portfolio) weave the story of the pioneering Gormley family; from their early homestead days to Grand Junction’s All American City designation, through the oil shale boom and bust to the city’s revival, and the 125 year celebration. She delights in creating hidden pictures with the technique of thread sketching, drawing the observer in for a closer look; ultimately leading them on an unexpected journey of discovery, imagination, and fantasy.

Ruth Ann’s passion is to honor the community by celebrating our historic leaders, their stories and their contributions that inspire us as we move into the future.
